Test Kitchen Tuesday: Tackling Butternut Squash

From creamy soups to oven-roasted cubes, butternut squash is a fantastic fall flavor. It can be quite the behemoth, but don’t let its size intimidate you. Follow these quick and simple steps to get this sizable squash recipe ready.

Step 1
Using a Y-shaped peeler, peel squash.

Step 2
Cut ends from squash; discard. Cut squash in half crosswise, where the neck and bulb meet.

Step 3
Cut neck and bulb in half lengthwise. Using a spoon, remove seeds from bulb, and discard.

Step 4
Slice or cube as desired.

Kitchen Tip: Butternut squash can be tough to cut, so use a sharp knife and be careful!
