Slow Cooker Pasta Sauce

Ingredients
  1. 2 pounds lean ground beef
  2. 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  3. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  4. 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  5. 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  6. 8 sprigs fresh basil
  7. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  8. 2 (28-ounce) cans whole tomatoes, crushed
  9. 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  10. ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  11. 3 teaspoons kosher salt
  12. 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  13. 1 pound cooked pasta
  14. Garnish: grated Parmesan cheese, fresh basil
Instructions
  1. In a large nonstick skillet, cook ground beef and sausage over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until browned and crumbly, 6 to 8 minutes; drain.
  2. In a 6-quart slow cooker, stir together cooked beef mixture, oil, and remaining ingredients (except cooked pasta and garnish). Cover and cook on low 8 hours.
  3. TO SERVE: Spoon 4 cups pasta sauce over 1 pound of cooked pasta. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
