Slow Cooker Pasta Sauce

Makes about 12 cups
Ingredients
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 8 sprigs fresh basil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 (28-ounce) cans whole tomatoes, crushed
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 3 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 pound cooked pasta
- Garnish: grated Parmesan cheese, fresh basil
Instructions
- In a large nonstick skillet, cook ground beef and sausage over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until browned and crumbly, 6 to 8 minutes; drain.
- In a 6-quart slow cooker, stir together cooked beef mixture, oil, and remaining ingredients (except cooked pasta and garnish). Cover and cook on low 8 hours.
- TO SERVE: Spoon 4 cups pasta sauce over 1 pound of cooked pasta. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
