These simple greens are braised low and slow to produce tender and flavorful collards.
Slow Cooker Greens with Tomatoes
Yields: 6-8 servings
Ingredients
- 8 cups chopped collard greens
- 1 (28-ounce) can plum tomatoes, drained and crushed
- 2 cups diced yellow onion
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
- 2½ teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
- In a 6-quart slow cooker, combine collard greens, tomatoes, onion, broth, sugar, vinegar, garlic, salt, hot sauce, and pepper. Place a paper towel over top of slow cooker insert.
- Cover and cook on low for 4 hours, stirring halfway through.
