And the Winner Is...

Stephanie Matthews takes home top prize in the Ultimate Krispy Kreme Recipe Contest.

It would seem to be a match made in heaven — Krispy Kreme, the South's favorite doughnut, and Taste of the South magazine. After all, Taste of the South chronicles the traditional foodways of the South, and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts have been a Southern tradition since 1937. When we got together, it was inevitable that we launch the first-of-its-kind search for the most delicious dessert recipe using Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, The Ultimate Krispy Kreme Recipe Contest.

We weren't prepared for the response. More than 1,700 people from around the country submitted their recipes for desserts, using everything from Original Glazed to Apple Fritters. It seems the South's favorite doughnut is America's favorite doughnut, too.

Among the judges at the final tasting was Ron Rupocinski, executive chef for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. "These creative recipes demonstrate the connection people have with Krispy Kreme," he noted. "Not only do they simply enjoy our doughnuts as they are, they take them home and into their kitchens and create their own Krispy Kreme masterpieces."

"Taste of the South is so excited that we could be a part of this recipe contest. The outpouring of creativity and innovation that went into the recipes was quite amazing and delicious!" echoed Taste of the South editor Lorna Reeves. "We are delighted to announce that our March 2008 issue will include the top ten Krispy Kreme recipes so that our readers can enjoy making them in their own homes."
