For generations folks across the South have been heading to their favorite spots to pick these succulent summer gems. Throughout the lush farmland of West Virginia you’ll find ample opportunity for berry picking, whether you’re scouting out strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, black raspberries, cherries, or many others! So pick your fill this berry season at some of our favorite u-pick spots in the state.

This beautiful, sprawling farm is filled with numerous orchards and berry patches bursting with fruit. Grab a berry container, hop on the trailer for a free hayride to the patches, and pick to your heart’s delight. Blueberries and black raspberries will be overflowing through the end of August. “We enjoy hosting our pick-your-own season—so many of our customers are excited to spend a relaxing day outdoors,” says Katy Orr, who manages the farm market. “Children love to see how things grow, and love to snack on the fruit while they help harvest!”

White Oak Farm

Dive into rows upon rows of blueberry bushes at this farm in Renick, West Virginia. When you arrive, you’ll be handed a corded bucket that can be slung across your shoulder so that both hands can be free for ultimate berry-picking access. They’ll even give you advice to help you figure out which berries are best—from testing how easily they come off the bush, to the perfect color, to where to peek for often-overlooked riches.

Shady Oaks Blueberry Farm

Started in 1997, this family-owned farm right outside of Charleston, West Virginia, offers blueberries and red raspberries, and even sells blueberry bushes for you to grow at home! Owners Chris and Leslie Burdette originally started the farm by planting ginseng, but they later introduced berries and a few other fruit varieties. Their conservation efforts mean that their irrigation and practices have the earth and the customer in mind—they’ve even won awards!
